How we rank
A rank is an opinion about fit. It is not a lab score, a popularity contest, or a receipt.
We rank a job, and we name it
“Best newsletter tool” is meaningless until you say for whom. On each use-case page the intro states the job, and the short answer is the rank in prose. A tool can be first for one job and absent from another. Riverside is a recording studio, so it sits below the editors on the video page. That is the method working.
What we look at
- Fit for the stated job, including what the tool is not.
- How quickly a newcomer can publish something real.
- How much control you keep when that matters for the job: the list, the site, the option to self-host.
- Whether a narrower tool deserves a lower number because the job is narrower, not because the product is worse.
What we will not do
- Sell a rank, or let a sponsor quietly occupy one.
- Publish prices, star ratings, or user counts we did not measure.
- Pretend a category shelf is a ranking. Shelves are alphabetical. Ranks live on use-case pages.
Sponsorship
Use-case pages reserve a labeled slot above the list. Until someone buys it, the slot says it is open. A live sponsor is marked Sponsored and the outbound link is marked for sponsors. The numbers underneath do not move. Fixed rates and Stripe checkout are on the advertise page. The contact form there is for a custom request. It does not send email yet.
Last verified
Seed listings were reviewed on October 17, 2026. That date means the general description still matched the product as we know it: CapCut is ByteDance’s short-form editor, Kit was ConvertKit, Stripe acquired Lemon Squeezy in 2024, and so on. It does not mean we re-checked every plan that morning. If a sentence is stale, tell us.
Reasonable people can swap two and three
These are editorial judgments from public product facts, not a benchmark suite. If your job is different from the one we named, ignore the number and read the line under the tool. That line is the useful part.
Questions
Can a sponsor buy a higher rank?
No. A paid placement is labeled and rendered outside the numbered list. The order of that list is editorial.
Why don’t you list prices?
Plans, fees, and limits change, and we do not run a live price feed. Every profile says to check the vendor site rather than repeat a number that may already be wrong.
What does last verified mean?
It is the date we reviewed the general description of the product: what it is, who it is for, and what it is not. It is not a live audit of features, uptime, or pricing.
How do I suggest a correction or a tool?
Use the submit page. In this preview the form does not send email or store the note. The path is there so the directory can take submissions once an inbox is connected.
